Mall and Ice Skating

By Brittany

Today we went to Ballston Mall and we had so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!! And when were there I thought I was going to fall on my butt, but I did not fall. Ok I fell 2 times, but it was not that bad. Before that Ms.S told me that I WAS NOT GOING TO DIE BECAUSE I HAVE A PHOBIA OF ELEVATORS. But Ms.S helped me by saying that they are safe and yeah. But I had a really good time hanging out with my friends.

Rock, paper, scissors

Today in homeroom, we had the first annual Sea Hawk Team Rock Paper Scissors Shoot tournament (rps). A week ago, we had a STAR (homeroom) rps tournament. In my star, I won and was one of two representatives. Today was the team wide tournament, the one that really mattered. I won the first round best 2/3. On the next round, I was tying a lot but then won. After that one I escaped to the final four. With many ties and one loss, I just made it to the final. In the final round it was 3/5. Everyone was cheering yes against me because they are my friends. In the final round the tension was building but I came through. I won! I was hoisted in the air by all my friends. It was a fun interesting sport (maybe not a sport) to win.

Revenge

By Rebecca

So yesturday we went to the mall and I had to get some new glasses but my sister wanted to go get some shoes. My mom wouldn't let her. And she being 16, she gave me that look and started being really mean. Well today I got my revenge. It wasn't planned it just happened. So she was running and tripped over my dog (he kinda blends in with the floor) and fell on me when I was on the sofa. She hurt me just barely, but I faked cried (she always falls for it) and ran to my room. Well it worked because she felt really bad and bought me french fries. Revenge is sweet ( or salty )

Walking Home

by Leonie

Emma and I were walking home after an endless day at school. The air was slightly thick, yet not very humid. Our feet were dragging on the ground, and our shoulders slumped with the ten ton wight of our backpacks.

"Almost there."

I mumble with the last of my strength.

"Yeah, right."

She grumbles in response. Just as the corner where we turn comes into view (which means we are almost home) heavy, widely spaced drops of rain fall from the heavens, leaving dark patches of rain on our clothes.

Midnight in Paris

By Noah

Tomorrow I am getting picked up from school, and I am going on a plane over to France. Then after I go there I am going to Spain. In Spain we are going to Madrid and a place called Malaga. Malaga is kind of like a beach. And Madrid is a big city. I will be posting from Spain and Paris and telling you how it goes. Bye, until next time.

My Swing

by Andrew

I have this awesome rope swing in my back yard. I also have a tree-house-like-thing. If you add the two togther you get total fun!!! You stand on the top of the tree-house-thing, 20 feet above ground and pray for your life that you don't let go. You jump, holding the rope, trying for your life not to let go. You swing like Tarzan, feeling like you are flying. Then you snap out of it and tighten your grip just in time to prevent yourself from crashing to the ground. Yesterday, we had the idea of taping our phones to a headlamp band that way we could record video and share the hair-raising, adrenaline-pumping adventure.

American Studies

By Alexis

Today, half of the Team went on a field trip. So the teachers decided that today all of the students would go to only first, second, and third periods. The first and second periods only lasted for half an hour, and third period lasted for 20 min.

After that everyone went to their assigned teacher, and either stayed, or left for the trip. I was one of the people who had to stay, and for the time left before lunch, and 15 min. after lunch, I was with the American Studies teacher. For the time that I was there, we did a test. The test didn't count towards our grades, but it was like a competition.

We were in groups of two, and we had to do the test as a team, and once we were done we had to put our pencils away, and then we were handed a red colored pencil and an answer key, and we checked our answers. We would be disqualified if we were caught with a pencil out, so we made sure not to take out our pencils. Whatever team got the least wrong would get some unknown prize. The person I was with and I got two wrong. After lunch we came back up, and the winners were announced.

"There was a tie, and the groups with the least wrong got two wrong, and those groups are Erik and Metea, and Alexis and Jocelyn. Will those groups talk to me before they leave?"

So, when we were leaving, she asked us to let her know by the end of the day what type of King Size candy bar we liked, and that our prize was the King Size candy bar. AWESOME!!!! I'm so lucky!

Candy City

by Eleanor

When I was at Busch Gardens there was a candy shop called Candy City. It was full of chocolate, lollipops, gummies, and sour treats. But the treat I choose was a gigantic rainbow lollipop. It was almost as big as my head.

I waited till the ride home to start eating. The drive was 3 hours long and I wasn't done still. By now the lollipop was the size of a silver dollar. Then I bit it. I couldn't believe it was all gone.
All I was thinking was, "I need another one."

When it was time to sleep my brother we scared so he slept with dad which meant I had to sleep with Mom.

Video Games

By Miguel

As I yawn from my comfy bed, and see the clock it's just 5:30 am! I tried to go back to sleep. I just couldn't. Was it me or was it just a nightmare I had that woke me up. Hm... as I thought what should I do with this free time. Should I use the computer... Wake up my brothers... eat cereal...and then I had the perfect idea: play video games. I quietly turned on the T.V. and put the volume all the way down. I turned on my PS3 and put on my game. Ouch, the brightness of was making the television was too bright. I went to options and turned the brightness down. Suddenly, my PS3 was making too much noise. I thought I heard foot steps coming down from my parent's room. I didn't care, so I kept playing, but as soon as they saw me, they yelled, "You're already up?"

Trayvon

By Kalisia

Trayvon was a innocent 17 year old boy who's life was cut short because of a man George Zimmerman. I felt that why did George have to shoot Trayvon all Trayvon was doing was visiting his dad in a very high class neighborhood. He decided to go to the corner store and but ice tea and skittles. George was following Trayvon and he called the police to tell them that he was following Trayvon the police told him to stop following him. George decided not to listen Trayvon call one of his friends and was telling her how he was being followed Trayvon had lost George then George came back the girl on the phone told Trayvon to run Trayvon decided not to run but to walk fast. Trayvon turned around and decided to ask the guy why he was following him and the guy told him he shouldn't be here he kept yelling stuff at Trayvon. That's when Trayvon put on his hood. He kept walking and a neighbor called the police that she heard some one crying for help (Trayvon) and she heard gunshots. Later on the police received a phone call that they found a dead body (Trayvon's body) and they saw the guy who killed him (George Zimmerman) he told the police that Trayvon had attacked him that's why he shot him but the police knew that he was lying because they remembered him telling them that he was following him. I feel sorry for his parents and family ! :(

Cinnabon Bun from Chesapeake

by Ellie

It was finally Sunday.
I opened the car door, got in, and closed it.
"Ready for Chesapeake?" My mom asked.
"Yep!"
We drove into the shopping center(the one with Harris Teeter, Baskin Robbins, and Pie Tanza), and found a parking spot.
"Great luck! We got one right in front of Chesapeake Bagel Bakery!" I said.
"Yeah."
A squeaky noise emerged from the glass door, when we opened it.
"We're here!" My mom said excitedly.
When we finally reached the front of the line, my mom had to order.
"What would you like?" My mom asked.
"Um..." I stared into the little window of treats. There were muffins, fruit assortments, cake, bread, cupcakes, cookies, donuts, and eclairs. "I guess I'll have a cinnamon roll. Thanks!"
"You're welcome. You deserve a treat."
The lady looked impatient.
"Um, sorry about that. We'll have a plain bagel toasted with butter, and a cinnamon roll heated up."
"Okay, ma'am."
We made our way through the rest of the line, and payed for our things.
"Thanks, mom!"
"You're welcome."
We found a small booth in the store, and sat down.
I took the cinnamon roll out of its box, and stared at his glorious texture.
Brown cinnamon sped across its edges, and drizzled icing skated across its top. It smelled of my grandparents' house, when they made apple pie and chocolate  chip cookies.
I unrolled part of the cinnamon roll, cut it with my fork and knife, and took a bite.
Yum. I felt calm and warm. Its heat sunk into my gums and tongue. The taste was so brilliant. The cinnamon. The bread. Icing. More cinnamon. More icing. It was all just the right amount. Mmmm!
It repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated. Bite after bite, warmth after warmth, and yummy after yummy; until it had all disappeared into my now, warm throat.
So, now my routine is the same. One cinnamon roll heated up at Chesapeake Bagel Bakery, every Sunday.
I love cinnamon rolls.

Apple Cake!

By Garrett

Earlier today, my mom and I decided to make a recipe that I had in a book called How To Survive Middle School. It was a recipe for Apple cake. One day I thought it sounded good, so I showed it to my mom. She said we could make it someday. And it just turned out that today was that day. There were a lot of parts to it but it wasn't too hard. We used cinnamon, sugar, apples, salt, flour, eggs, and much more. We were told to bake it for eighty minutes, but my mom was afraid it would get over-cooked, so we took it out a little early. It ended up being the perfect timing, because it looked just crisp enough. Later, when my dad and my sister got home, we all ate it together. It was really good.

Hot Glue Guns

By Caroline

Hot glue guns. They are dangerous.

We're currently in art for electives. We were making these nice little cardboard chairs as a final project, and were given a heap of junk and asked to make our chairs unique. Making something out of nothing? Easy. Putting it together? Dangerously painful. I was attaching the back of my chair to the seat using a hot glue gun when the chair toppled over. The glue gun slipped and spread the blazing adhesive on my arm.

"Oh jeez oh jeez oh jeez oh jeez! Burning! Burning!" I had shouted comically. I rushed to the sink to ease the pain and pull the glue off of my arm. The burn was a nasty one. A small one, thankfully. A portion of the skin had blistered, and some had pulled away to reveal the second layer. The injury was whitish-pink, and it stung like crazy.

That afternoon, after I had arrived home, the injury had already begun to produce some fluid...to protect itself? To tell me it needed to be protected? I don't know. I put some bandages on it, and now I have a burn scar on both arms (my left arm has a scar from my toaster oven). Ouch!
by Livia

Today I rushed home. It was anywhere near 4, but I wanted to be home extra early. I went online and straight to ticket master. 1 hour and 20 minutes until my chance. I sat there, hypnotized by the screen, watching the clock tick. 1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes, 10 minutes, I nervously said. The anticipation was so big. Not knowing what would happen. Would you get through, or would you fall short. The clock struck 4, I clicked on link after link, my hands trembling ad the page loads. Yes, 4 tickets, almost in my hands. I had to buy more though, my heart was racing. I filled out all the information needed, shaking uncontrollably as I did so. It was hard. Not knowing what would happen. Entering numbers and hoping you did at the right time. Hoping you got tickets.

It's discouraging when you wait for a page to load that brings you bad news, but you have to continue. Try time after time. Hope, cross your fingers. To tell you the truth, it was exciting, in a bad way. When so much is riding on one click of your mouse. When so many people are counting on you. When you need to move with speed AND accuracy.

In the end sometimes it pays of, other times it doesn't. For me all my "hard" work payed off because I get to see ONE DIRECTION PERFORM!!!!!! A dream of mine came to with the push of a button, literally.

My Upcoming Trip to Brazil

By Raul

Just the other day, my dad told me something that got me so totally psyched. He told me that our whole family was going to go to Brazil in 2014 for the FIFA® 2014 World Cup. My mom thought it was a good Idea to take a short vacation. Last year, my dad's country, Uruguay, came in 4th in the FIFA World Cup. In 2014, I hope that Uruguay would at least come in 2nd place. While in Brazil, My dad and I said we would also go to the Favelas (very dangerous village) and see how it is there. Im still happy to go there and watch my team play.

My Other Cut Glued Shut

by Ben

Rinnnngggg the bell to lunch had finally rung. I was so hungry. It was a good day, and I was not letting anything bad get in my way. I ate my lunch, then it was time to go outside. Yeah, it was a good day outside. I ran outside playing around with my friend and then BOOM! I fell down and hit my head on the hard metal bleachers.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, this was scary, I had a of a lot of blood running down my face. I rushed inside to the elevators with one of the staff members. I ran straight out of the elevator to the clinic, go cleaned up and rushed to the hospital with my mom. I waited for a doctor for 5 minutes and he said I had to get x rays first for my nose to see if it was broken because i hit it really hard too. So they said it was fractured but it would heal on its own if I left it alone.

Finally, the doctor walked in,"How are you doing today Benjamin? We are going to glue that wound now" So they glued it and I was ready to go home, but I had to wait for the other doctor to give me all oh the stuff like my insurance card and papers. After all that went through, I got to go home. My eye was really hurting, so I had to take some ibuprofen. It all turned out good and right now i still have the glue on that cut.

On Monday, when we were playing Capture the Flag, the girls challenge us.We excepted the challenge. We creamed the girls, beating them in about five minutes, then again. Finally, we played a regular match but we didn't get a chance to finish the match.

Uh Oh

By Harrison

Just about 1hr ago I was letting my brothers use my paint because they wanted to paint their lego people. As soon as I turn around to do this my brother says"AW MAN!". I came back and saw that there was gold paint all over the floor and recycle bin. I tried too get all of the paint up before my dad came downstairs. But as soon as half of the paint comes up he comes downstairs and he is screaming like crazy. He told me that if he saw any paint in the kitchen table or on the floor then I can't paint any more. That just basically means that I have to get a new hobby.

Hail Storm

by Kerry

One day, when I was younger, something strange happened. There was a hail storm. That night, my neighbors were planning to come over, so the kids could play and the adults could do whatever they do. As soon as my neighbors walked in the door, it began to hail. Big chunks of ice dropped from the sky, as if a cloud had broken into a million pieces and was falling to the ground. Naturally, we found this really exciting. We ran to the door like hungry dogs running to their food. We watched in awe as the little pieces of white covered the dirt, forming a polka-dotted blanket. We couldn't hold it in any longer, so we ran to the door, threw it open, and sprinted into the middle of the yard. We began spinning and dancing in circles just like what we do when it snows.

I wanted to feel one of the chunks, so I picked one up and held it in my hand. It felt like I was holding a block of ice. Then again, I actually was. The cold sensation swept over me like a burst of wind. It started to burn my fingers, so I dropped the hail and ran inside along with my brothers and my neighbors. I don't think I'll ever forget that experience. I'm not one hundred percent sure why, but hail has a weird affect on us.

Blue

by Kelly

Blue is such an energetic dog. He loves Ollie, my dog, so much. He always comes over to my door after he escapes his owner. Just a second ago he ran up to my door, wagging his tail so hard as if it was a propeller. He jumped up and down, wanting Ollie to break through the glass and come outside. He would do what he always does when he sees Ollie: jump on him, try to tackle him, chase him around the yard, and try to take his ball or frisbee away from him. They tear up grass and flowers, while making laps around the yard. To me, Blue is like my own dog, or at least my dog's brother.

A Disastrous Picture Day

by Laura

One day in the third grade, my teacher announced to us that next week would be Picture Day. Excited, I told my mom to buy the pictures. She agreed.
On the much-awaited day, I woke up late. Frazzled and sleepy, I threw on a sweatshirt, jeans, sneakers, and forgot to brush my hair. Worrying about being late on the way to school, my mother didn't take notice of my rather boyish appearance.
However, when I got to school, I walked into my classroom just in time to see everyone stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance. Dresses, heels, button-down shirts, and slacks were everywhere. The first thing I remember thinking was, Oh, dang it, it's Picture Day.
Trudging in, I handed the teacher my pass and sat down, ignoring the stares from my fellow classmates. One of my friends whispered, "Laura, you know it's Picture Day....right?"
"Yes, I know." I responded with a sigh. "At least I do now."
I left her looking confused as the a tinny voice rang down from the intercom.
"Second and third grade may come to get pictures taken."
Uh-oh.

Here in orchestra. Doing a note practice on the computer. Sneaking to do this assignment in lab 218. Getting 93% on my note grade, yet it's still an "A". Having Rachel and Ashley laughing next to me getting an "D." This is fun being in here. Going to play our Violins tomorrow. I'm not so sure when we will go to the back to the computer lab . FUN!

Water Park

by An-Ya

In Bahamas, we go to a water park called Atlantis. Almost every year that we go to the Bahamas, we go to Atlantis. When I was really little, all I did was sit grumpily in a stroller and wait till lunch, and after lunch wait till dinner, and after dinner, wait till we went home. I wasn't tall enough for any of the big rides, and I had no interest in the little rides. But, as soon as I was 48 inches, I was ready to go. My first experience on a "big kid" ride was really great. I went on a ride called the Serpent Slide. I climbed into the tube, and the lifeguards pushed me into the dark, winding tunnel. There were a bunch of unexpected twists and turns, and you never knew what was coming next. Finally, the dark tunnel ended, and I went under a waterfall into a glass tube with sharks swimming around it. There weren't too many, so I wasn't that scared, but some sharks still came right up to the glass and looked at me. I went through the glass tube very slowly, only being pushed by the slightest waves, and finally slid down the final short slide and the ride was over.

"Again!" I said. Eventually I had had enough of this ride and was ready for something more. We went to what is called the "Power Tower" where all of the big rides were. We decided on the most mild one. After waiting in a very long line, it was finally my turn. I went in a double tube with my dad. We went on a little "moving walkway" like they have at airports, except we were sitting down in a tube, and at the end, there was a huge drop. My heart was pumping, ready for a surprise any minute now....

"Whirrr!" I could hear the passing by as we dropped on the walkway. I was to scared to scream. We went up and down  and up and down over and over again, and I was starting to get a bruise on my tailbone. Finally, we reached a dark tunnel (sense a theme here?) and came out of the tunnel and floated in white water rapids. After the ride was over, I was too terrified to speak, and all I could say was "Let's go on the serpent slide again"

Hide and ?

By Henry

One night during a scouting trip for boyscouts, we played hide and seek tag (hide, then try not to get tagged). The sky was black outside, and there was a playground we played on. I hid close to the street, and I waited there. nobody found me, but the round hadn't been called over yet so I kept waiting. After about 20 minutes of solid waiting, I went to the playground to see what was going on. Nobody was there so I went to the campsite. It turns out the people in the trailers were complaining and the game ended. The bad thing was, I missed dinner. The spaghetti had been eaten, and the burner and the rest of the cooking and eating materials were packed up. I don't realy know the lesson that should be learned here, but it was a pretty painful experience.

St. Pattie's Day

By Radwa

Yesterday night I remembered something.....that today is St. Pattie's Day. So I decided to wear green pants. I am wearing green shorts and a green shirt. So no one can pinch me. I pinched my older brother then he decided to punch me, but it didn't hurt. I pinched my little sister in her sleep. She was wearing green but I was feeling pinchy. So right now I am sitting here protecting myself from pinches. Bye everyone! Make sure you're wearing green!

P.S. Oh where's me pot of gold!

Meeting WNBA Players!

By Kayla

Today at lunch the Harlem Wizards came and performed. Two women from the Seattle Storm WBNA team came also. After the Harlem Wizards finished, the women introduced themselves. Then they answered some questions. When I was walking to class, the principal stopped me and told me to come and meet someone. She introduced me by saying, “Kayla was one of our star basketball players on our basketball game. She also shoots squirrels with her granddad.”

One of the women told me if I really love basketball, I should keep playing. Then I shook their hands and went to math class and took my test.

Philippines!

 by Kathryn

I remember that afternoon in the Philippines. It was about to rain. I could feel little, tiny raindrops falling on my hair. My cousins and I were running to the day care. When I got inside, my cousins yelled at me for going in there. They told me there were monsters. I didn't believe them at all. We were playing outside under the roof of the porch. There was pile of sand, so my cousins and I started to throw sand at each other. My cousin Ning Ning (I call her Octopus Queen because of some joke) had wet sand on her flip-flops, so she put them outside to be cleaned. When she wasn't looking I put more sand on her flip-flops. After that I started dancing stupidly. I looked so dumb. When I turned around my cousins were staring at me the whole time. My cousins started to laugh and so did I. It wasn't the best decision to dance at that time.

BEE Stuck

By Austin

Bees, the most horocious insect in the world!

Yesterday when I was heading to lacrosse practice my dad picked me up and told me there was a bee in the car stuck under the window. So when my dad was about to sweep it out, there was nothing there. My dad said it probably was gone. When we were driving down Fillmore i heard a buzzing noise and turned my head around until i saw a big, chunky, yellow and black bee. The first thing I did was open the car door and hopped out and on to the side walk and saw my dad scrape against the curb. We searched for the bee in the car but couldn't find it. My dad said it was probably gone now. But that's exactly what he said last time.

Epic Football Catch (or not)

by Theo

Ahh, here's another great California story. This one is not a fail on MY part, but my dad's part. So, one day we go to the beach (seeing as the day is AMAZING!) My mom thought to bring a football for me and my dad to play with. We're passing, having a good time, and then we start the get-the-ball-to-the-guy-thats-running game. I start to run, and my dad chucks it towards me. It's a perfect throw, but instead of hitting me, it hurls toward this other kid. He sees it coming at the last second, and then kicks it up, boots it towards my dad......and then it hits him in the nose. He's okay. He stands up, still a little woozy, but still laughs.

The Tutor

By Miles

I had this guy coming to my house for trumpet lessons. At first I thought he was going to be some weird guy with glasses who was really messed up. When he got to my house he looked tall and like not such a bad guy, I mean I was nervous but it was not so bad. He was shaved almost completely bald with a really dark shirt. He also taught me a lot that I didn't know before and it was actually helpful in sounding better and having a better posture. The tutor was also really really good himself, he played in the army so I guess he has to be good. He has traveled the world playing for people and teaching trumpet lessons, it's his job now. What shocked me is that he is married, even though he travels the world playing he still finds time to get married. Over all the man was not that bad and I feel a lot better.

Rushing in the Morning

by Emily

This morning was dull looking like it was about to rain, looking like it was cold. The sky was light gray, still dark enough to make me sleepy luring me back to sleep in my cozy bed.
7:00, I woke up with I start. Rushing through my morning was hard but I made it through everything with just enough time to make it to school.
I half-run to school, but I still can't make it, just as I get inside the bell rings and I'm late for my STAR.

Homework

By Esteban

Yesterday I had three things to do for homework. I was happy because it was only three things. "Yes!" I said. So I decided to make a goal to have only two things for homework tomorrow. First period today the teacher gave homework, it was going to take a long time because it had lots of coloring you needed to do. And in second period I got homework too, but I finished it. But in third period I got more homework. My goal seemed kind of far away because I still had two more periods to go.

In lunch I did some of first period's homework, but there was still so much. I got more H/W in fifth period. But by 6th period I finished the first H/W I got, the coloring one. I ate little by little of that H/W till there was none. I also manage to finish my 3th period homework, and by the time I got home I only had two things to do for homework.

BUT than I realized that I had to do my slice of life! "No!"I said. But it did make a good story.

Computer done!

by Garrett

Last weekend, I finished upgrading the hardware and software that our old computer needed. First, we installed our 600 watt ThermalTake PSU, and while we were at it, we decided we would open the other computer and transfer its 2GB RAM Graphics Card to the old one, too. That was a breeze - graphics cards are fairly easy to install(if you ever need a graphics card installed, ask me). You just stick them in the slot and connect it to the PSU. That night, I tried to play my favorite game, and it lagged extensively. I checked the PC's RAM - Only 3GB, and the reccomended is 4. The other computer had 7GB of RAM. So we bought some DDR2 RAM, which is an old type of ram(for an old computer!). Newer RAM is called DDR3. RAM is also fairly easy to install, so I installed it myself, and all of my games worked smooth and were graphically correct. The next step is moving all of my bookmarks and favorites from the other computer.

Walk Around

By Ainood

When I was in Egypt,we could not get out a lot because it was Ramadan and it was not likely for a lot of people to be out, but somehow the streets are anyways to crowded.I feel like some people don't see all of Egypt because well what I see mayby more of the real than the amazing sights.

Well it was a normal day and me and my family. We were fasting, all except my little brothers and we were in our apartments and me and my sister were bored, so we went up to my cousin's house which is upstairs(my famliy owns the building). We just sat and watched tv there and started talking.I love to play in the computer because it has lots of games.

I was bored so my older cousin asked if I wanted her to take me to go outside and explore the streets and shop.I said okay because I was bored.when I came out it was crowded but I stayed close to my cousins and I looked around. They always let us buy one thing from a shop which was nice.I liked chatting while walking. We drank this juice a popular juice that we drink in Egypt which is super good and makes going around the best part. You can hear lots of loud music and from far ahead away from the streets weddings(we have weddings at night)After a couple spins we came back tired from our walk.

Montpelier

by Jessie

This Friday the Seahawks went on a trip to Montpelier. For me the most fun part of the trip (other then the bus and lunch) was going inside of the mansion. We walked in the the ginormous house and saw each of the rooms go by. Each had its own unique story which were really interesting to hear. One room was Madison's library, one his bedroom, another one his mother's room, the cellar, and my favorite: the one where he died. Now your probably wondering why would your favorite room be the empty room where someone died? That's just creepy! I liked this room because you were in the exact room, in the exact place where one of our forefathers died, where he took his last breath, where he saw his last sight. To me, that's amazing.

Stupid Geese!

By Aaron

In the summer of 2007, me and my family went to Williamsburg. Our plan was to meet up with other family members and go to Busch Gardens. The whole trip was nice. It was a fun way to get to know your family better on a summer vacation, since my grandmother's side of the family lives in Ohio. When my sister, 2 aunts and I went for a walk, we encounterred geese. Geese were everywhere! But, they were not scary......up to that moment. At first, the geese followed because we had bread with us, so we gave them some. But then, groups of them starting quacking at us. More and more surrounded us. We were forced to go on a dock in a pond. At that point, we thought they were gone. Then, just like in the movies, one goose steps in. "Quack!" With that one quack, millions of geese started coming on the dock. To get out, we threw crumbs of bread at them. But, they still followed us. So, we had to run in a forest. Straight ahead, a dozen of geese quack at us. We couldn't go back because the army of geese we just encountered are still charging at us. So, we go forward to the smaller army of geese. And, they don't do anything. In 2 minutes, it's certain they've stopped chasing us. And, all of this happened in 10 minutes! I'm not saying I was scared of geese after that, but I tried to avoid them.

Buzzer Beater

by Ryan

11 seconds: Duke down 2, the Carolina crowd letting them here it, but if only they knew...

Rivers takes the ball up the court, driving left, then cutting back right, into the corner. The Carolina players guard the Blue Devils, not giving them an open shot.  Zeller looks up, wondering if this posession would even matter if he hadn't epicly failed. Rivers launches a 3 up with half a second left. As the ball soars, the crowd quiets down until you can hear the ball move through the air. Then the crowd up in the corner, the Duke crowd, cheers as the ball goes through the net. Game Over. Final. Duke wins.

Daniel's Dream

By Heidi

I remember one time in homeroom Daniel told me about a bad dream he had that was about a green sweater. I started laughing and he told me that the green sweater was chasing him trying to eat him or something, and the rest of the day I kept making fun of his dream. I told everyone and kept saying that the green sweater was behind him or right there. Everyday in homeroom he said he kept thinking about the green sweater, but then another day in homeroom he said that he wasn't scared of the green sweater anymore. He said that he had another bad dream, but this time about a green spider. And again I started laughing! I told everyone and I started making fun of his dream again, and again he told he that he was thinking about the green spider all the time. I think he is still scared of that green spider.

The Time I Dropped my Phone in the Rain Gutter

by Matt

One day, in mid-fall, I was walking home from my friend's house. A layer of multicolored leaves covered the ground. I was holding my phone in my hand, instead of in my pocket, where it should've been. As I passed by the rain gutter, the phone fell out of my hands, hit the layer of leaves, and slid down into the sewer. Now if it had been summer, spring, or maybe even winter, there would not have been as many leaves on the ground, so the phone would not have slid, but it was fall. Me and my mom then called the county, and the came in driving a truck with a 30+ foot long shovel. They pried open the nearby manhole with a crowbar, and dug my phone out. Luckily, it was not wet and I still use that phone today.

Swim Meet

By Laura

"Start warming up!" said Coach Kevin. BOOM!! I hit the water, I get up for air and swim as fast as I can. The was done practicing and the meet had begun. The moment Coach Kevin called MY name to go I was freaking out like crazy! Natalie had to go at the same time with me too, we were both doing a 25 back stroke. We got it the water and grabbed on the metal handle on the bottom of the diving board. "On your marks" said the man BEEEEEEPPPP, I quickly pushed myself off on I started swimming as fast as I could. It was really hard once I hit the wall, I was done. The lady didn't tell my time so I waited relaxed. At the end of the meet I asked Mr.S what place I was in and what my time was..... I was really happy to hear that my time was 22.32 seconds and I came in 3rd place!!!! I was really happy!

Fishing

By Erik

Fishing. Fishing at a military camp. That was my summer vacation. I can't tell you where you where the camp is but it was fun.

"Dad are we there yet?" I asked

"Almost Erik, almost," my dad replied. When we got to the lake(or river it's both) I ran out and threw my rod in the water.

"ERIK! YOU DON'T THROW THE WHOLE ROD IN THE WATER!" My dad screamed. My dad also had to go in the water and get it. After that my dad told me how to hold the rod and how to fish in general. When I reared the rod back it hooked on to my hat and of course no one noticed. Then I launched the hook to the water. I felt a tug and reeled the hook out of the water. Once I saw the hat my heart dropped.

" A hat?" I asked " am I really that bad?"

"Practice makes perfect Erik" My dad replied

Pure Beauty of Life

by Mary

"Can I run?" I cheered, more than asked.
"Go, go, ahead, and run!!" she exclaimed. Run. I loved that word from the bottom of my heart. So, I ran. I remember my feet pushing against the golden sand. The ocean's edge and midnight sky mixed to form black- a color that looked beautiful to me. Above, palm trees hovered, and at my side the tropical flowers spread out on the ocean floor. I took a deep breath of the fresh air and continued on my way. My hair pushed back from the heavy wind, and my dress filled up with salty air.  I found my pure beauty, or rather the pure beauty. So, readers, when you find it, let me know. The joy and love can be shared.

Last DC United Game

by Mariel

He was fast, a great scorer, kinda old, and he always played amazing. The crowd always would cheer when he scored. Two season’s ago, there was a D.C. United player who retired, named Jaime Moreno. He started to play with D.C. when the team first started. I got to go to his last game and he played really well. During the game someone who works at the stadium came up to my row. I thought that someone did something wrong, but then she handed us all a poster that had a picture of the team and it was signed by the the whole team. My friend and I were really happy that we got this.

During half time Jaime Moreno and his family came out on the field and took a lot of pictures, I think that they gave him an award too. When he was taken out of the game everyone stood up and clapped and cheered for him too. The stadium has two levels, a ground level and a high level. No one ever sits on the high level unless it is a game against L.A. Galaxy or a U.S.A. national team game, so what they did was put Jaime Moreno’s name and number (99) at the top in a sort of black thing. He still does work for D.C. United by being the youth academy coach.
Even though they lost this game, it will always be one of my favorites. I will miss the way he would fake the ball, score, and be on the team. He was one of the best players D.C. United ever had. (At least that's what I think.)

Think About It.

By Malcolm

Today has kind of been a weird day. I mean we are talking about all these foreign countries in Science, and its weird how privileged Americans are compared to the rest of the world. My group is doing Nepal, and a lot of the people actually grow their own food. We on the other hand, are living in a society that is ignorant of the environment, overeats, and burns lots of resources that make us dependent on other countries. America, is in pretty bad shape right now. Unless we get rid of the society we have constructed based on things, all of our ways of life are going to disintegrate completely. Think about this next time, before you complain about how unfair your life is.

The Rain

by Geoffrey

A couple of days ago I had to walk home in a rainstorm. At first it was just a light shower, but then it became heavier and colder. Then it became a real storm. After several minutes I was soaked to my skin and my clothes were completely wet. I should have taken shelter in a store or the local elementary school, but I decided to  keep on going. The stinging cold soaked through my backpack, and when I finally trucked through the rain my homework was completely ruined and I had to print another sheet out. After I got my homework sorted out, I got some hot chocolate and held it in my hands trying to get the warmth back into me.

People...

By Madeline

I am in the mood for yelling/ typing in a mad fashion today. I guess this counts as a slice of life- it IS a major part of it. So, listen up.
Most people are super interested with being "cool"/ "popular". What is Popular? Is it everyone in school wanting to be your BFF? No. Popular really is when people know you because you do Good Stuff, not ditching class, or having a boyfriend/girlfriend (and most of you sixth graders are really too young for that), or even not wearing your gym uniform. Cool isn't breaking into someone's locker, or whatever else you people do. Cool is being yourself. It doesn't matter what clique you're in, or who you hang out with. If people can't like you for being yourself, than your so called "friends" aren't that great. If you say that who you are now is "you", than sure, believe that, but I know a bunch of you and that you are really interesting, nice people on the inside.
Just deal with it. This is what it is. If you want attention, do something GOOD to get it.
If you want to tease me, sure. But know, this post is the simple truth about the majority of the sixth grade.

Center of the Earth

by Austen

Seven years ago...
I sat outside on my steps with my neighbor Emerson and and watched my dad do yard work. I sat there thinking about the shovel and pulled Emerson down the steps, got my little, pink plastic shovel and Emerson got her green one.

"Lets dig to the center of the Earth!" I screamed excitedly.

"Okay!?" Emerson said sounding really confused. So I dug, and dug, and dug, and dug, intill the hole seemed deep, but was only a couple inches. I hit a rock and thought I had made to the center of the earth, but obviously I didn't.

I ran around screaming "I did it! I did it!" Then Emerson looked down the small hole I dug, and picked up the rock.

"You didn't do it" she exclaimed.

I stared into the hole and said "Eh, I'll try again tomorrow."

The Wedding

By Marissa

Around a year or so from today I was flying in an airplane with my sister and my dad down to Florida. We were headed to my home town and the town where my aunt will get married. This was probaly one of the funnest experiences I had there in Pensacola, Florida. When we arrived we met our mom who had already been there for a week helping her sister. Our mom was the maid of honor and I was a junior brides maid along with my sister who was a flower girl. I remember every part of that vacation. On the wedding day we woke up very early so that we could head to the salon with the rest of the brides maids and family. It took around 3 hours for everyone to get their hair done. Afterwards we headed to the church where they were to be married. We got dressed and ate a few snacks. My mom and aunt shed a few tears of joy and happiness too. Then the time finally came, the pews were filling up and the butterflies in my stomach grew into birds. The next thing I knew I was headed down the aisle with a bouquet of beautiful red roses. I sat down and watched as the ceremony went on. I was so happy for them that I forgot about everything that was on my mind including the birds in my stomach. Later on at the Reception we all danced and had a bunch of fun. I also greeted my new uncle, but I had a hard time remembering to say uncle instead of mister. Some of us ran around on the beach some people danced and ate their food. I can't explain why but every part of that experience had been so much fun. I wish it was still going on today.

Mission Possible

by Fiona

"Take!" I call down to my belayer. I'm nearly to the top of a 9.5 level 40 foot rock wall. Don't get me wrong - rock climbing is an awesome sport, but let's just say this: this wall is tough. A real challenge. My hands are exhausted and I need a break. Hence, my plea of 'take.'
"Gotcha!" my belayer yells.  *whew* I don't think I could have lasted any longer. I swing out from the wall and wiggle my hands, trying to rid them of the pains. Pains are persistent, though, and they cling on. Darn. Oh well. I reach into my chalk bag and squeeze what's left of the chalk. At least that will keep the sweat at bay for a while.
I swing back to the wall. I'm persistent, too. And I'm ready.
      "Climbing!" I call.
"Climb on!" comes the reply. Off I go.

Don't Worry

By Monty

This weekend seemed like a normal weekend where I usually get only math homework and nothing else, so I waited until today to do it. Then I realized I had to do this, my science article, math, and social studies. I stressed out when I found out, but then I started to relax and think. Now I'm almost done. I guess if you just don't worry, plan it out, have fun, and work hard, it will just fly by. Stressing is very common and annoying, that's why sometimes you just need to kick back and relax.

My Dad

by Gretchen

My dad. The person I look up to the most. The only man I would trust my life with. My dad. My dad is not like other dads. He has a soft side to him to, a side that comes out whenever it's just me and him.
Today my dad and I went to a hair salon. Together. My dad got his head massaged and washed, and I got something done that will surely surprise all of you tomorrow.
After our little appointment, we decided to go to a barbecue so my dad could get some manliness back ;). The instant we walked in, about 6 men came up and screamed,
  "Tommy! Ehhhh!!"
  "How's it goin'?"
  "Nicce to see you, man!"
I just looked at my dad.
"Oh wow." I said while rolling my eyes. My dad asked the bartender if I could sit down at the bar, and he replied.
"Only if the young lady with shake my hand." His smile was perfect, and he extended his arm out to me. "I'm Joey, you must be Gretchen."
"That's me!" I shake his hand and make eye contact, for my dad says that's a symbol of not being afraid.
"I'm guessing you'll be gettin' the usual?" Joey asked my dad.
  "That'll be it!"
  "What's the usual?" I say.
  "Ribs and a cheeseburger."
  "Niiice!" I say.
Joey gets me and my dad "on the house" drinks. For me, a root beer
Once our food arrives we decide to go home and listen to Niel Diamond. We put the roof down in the car and sing our hearts out.
"Las Angelas is fine, but it 'aint my home! New York is home, but it 'aint mine no more!"
My dad.

Three Day Field Trip!

By Aziza

I wake up groggy and unfocused. That is, until, I take one look at my calendar and my heart almost skips a beat, for it is April 27, 2011. That date may mean nothing to most people, but to me it is a day I will never, ever, forget. It was the day the whole fifth grade at Canyon View Elementary School (the BEST elementary school ever) took a field trip to Disney in California, and then Riley Farms to do a Civil War reenactment. Also, we took an eight hour coach bus ride to and back to Anaheim, California. However, the best part of all was that I got to do experience it all with my most beloved friends ever, Sydney, Emily, and Aly. For a whole 3 DAYS! On the Wednesday of the 27th, I went to school, just as I would on any given day. However, when the school day ended, I rushed home and grabbed everything I'd prepackaged for the field trip. After that I showered, because we couldn't have a field trip with a bunch of sweaty, stinky kids packed on a bus. Then, my friend, Sydney, came to pick me up at 7:00. When we got to the school campus, I felt like a stick of dynamite about to explode. We boarded the bus, the cushioned seats making me feel like I was on a cloud. We took a few pictures, then it was lights off. After that we got to eat, and then we watched MOVIES on the back of the seats. After that, I slept, but I kept waking up every 30 minutes until 12:00 when the bus driver had to take a break. I stayed up from then until 8:00 in the morning, when we went to McDonald's for breakfast. After that, we drove to Anaheim. We got ready in a Disneyland bathroom, where we put on our T-shirts (designed by me and Sydney) and went to our tour-guide. Mine was a guy named Chris. He taught us about the history of Disney. Then we had lunch, which I pre-ordered before the field trip, and then we went to do some more sight seeing. The best part of the tour was definitely the second part. We learned about physics. BY RIDING ROLLER COASTERS!!!! I rode the California screaming, thunder nightmare, the tower of terror, and a boat ride down a white-rapids river and we all got really wet. After that we got some free time, where we rode even more roller coasters. After that we got $15 to have any dinner of our choice, as long as it was on Disneyland campus, so our group ate at a Mexican restaurant. After that really fun day, we went to Holiday Inn resorts. In the morning, we got to eat at the breakfast bar in the hotel. After that, the fun STILL wasn't over. We went to Riley Farms, where we got to learn about the Civil War with actors, and do a reenactment of it. After that we had giant hamburgers for lunch. Then, we had to board the bus to go home to Tucson. It was the BEST three days of my life. :)

March 2

By Abby

So, I have had my parent teacher conference this morning and I'm really glad that it's over. My parents were very happy about my grades and so was Ms.C. It's nice to have almost a whole day off. I am trying to persuade my family to go see the Lorax but I seem to be the only one other than my little sister who even cares. One of the big reasons that I want to see the movie is because the Lorax was one of my favorite books ever. There where so many things that where special to me then that I don't even think about normally anymore, like the books that I used to love. Sometimes forgetting things is good, but in this case it is pretty sad because I will have a baby brother soon and I want him to enjoy the same great things that I enjoyed when I was little. I will try to be a super awesome sister and hopefully, someday, he willl love the Lorax, too.

Forgetting My Dad's Birthday

By Adrita

I woke up today morning and doing every thing like normal, brush my teeth, wash my face, take a shower, dry my hair, put my clothes on, and wake up my dad. My dad was unusually happy, he was all ready to go. He came up to me in a very happy tone, then I broke that tone by saying...
"What!?" I said in a very confused tone.
"Oh nothing!" He mumbled. I headed to the car outside and went to school. I went through the day as normal, doing my class work, having fun at lunch as usual nothing different. I was unaware of the date until I was in social studies, when I started writing the date a thought came up.
Today was a very important day, but what is it? I thought to myself. Then all of a sudden it hit me. I was sitting with my friends Fatima. Rania and Fiona. I blurted out
"Oh my god, today is my dad's birthday, I totally forgot."
"Oooo, you forgot your dad's birthday girl!!" exclaimed Fiona. I spent that whole day thinking of what I would do when I got home. I was in my wings class and then the bell rung, I headed straight to the office but Rachel pulled my and asked me
"Hey Adrita, would you come to community and service." I didn't want to be rude so I said yes. i went thorough the whole community and service activity thinking of what I would do if I got home. The bell rung. I went up to Mrs. E. Smith and asked
"Can I call my dad Mrs. E. Smith."
She replied
" Sure dial 9 first." I dialed the number and in my head I was saying pick up, pick up, pick. He picked up and I blurted,
"Happy birthday dad!"
" Thank you, glad you remembered!." He said in a very unsurprising tone.
" Are you going to pick me up today!"
"No your mom will!"
"Okay, bye, love you!"
"Love you too!" He hung up the phone. I gathered all my stuff and waited outside for my mom. My mom came and she had the music so high you can hear it from the parking lot to the front of the school. I made her rush all the way home and when i got their I went straight into my art supplies and started making a card.
" Get ready I'm dropping you at your dad's work so me and your dad could go get work done, okay!"My mom said. Perfect! I thought.
" Okay!" I shouted. I put on my boots and my warm north face jacket and rushed to finish the card.
"Ready!" My mom said.
"Ready!" I replied
When we got to my dad's work I hid the card and when he came up to me I shoved in his face.
"Oooo whats this a card for me!" He exclaimed. He started reading the cursive words, it read:
Dear Baba,
I'm not going to lie, but I don't want to surprise you, but I forgot you birthday this morning. When I was writing the date in social studies, I was thinking of b-days and the I was like, omg today is my dad's b-day. I'm sorry for forgetting your b-day. I love you! Happy B-day!
Love Adrita
"It's okay, this is the best gift anyone has ever given me, thank you."He smiled then we hugged
