Final days of School

By Prashanth

This is going to most likely be my last post of the school year. Today the entire school WAS so quiet until the 5th graders came and started looking from the windows at us like we were caged zoo animals!!! A good part from that at lunch was I got to see my 5th grade teacher again. A few kids tried to run from their past, and I wonder why... Anyway, we only have about 9 more days of school right? So I am going to have the best last few days, then do something else I don't want a few people to know. I hope to see most of you before school ends. :)

Hershey Park!

By Jay

I cannot explain excited, eager, waiting, and ready I am for tomorrow's trip. It will be a very long bus ride, but it will all be worth it. I have my handy dandy sack pack packed with all the goodies I am taking, and a little bit of cash. We have to wake up at 5:15 to get ready and on the buses. I just can't wait for tomorrow and as I anticipate the fun. For all you trippers, go to bed if you want to make it!

Names

By Maeve

I think that I might have a name for my fish now...........Blink! I didn't have a lot of things that I wanted to choose from, but I chose this wisely. Whenever I am feeding him, it doesn't matter what he is doing, he will come over in the blink of an eye. It is really funny to watch, and I think that you would find it weird. I still wanted to name him that, though I might change it, I will report back if I do.

Fire

By Lili

My grandma was still a bit drowsy after she woke up from her nap. Despite her drowsiness, she got up and went to get the matches from her sewing kit and a candle from the closet. She plopped back down on her bed, lit the candle, and set it near the fringe of her curtain. She took another nap woke up and the fringe was on fire, only a little so she called for my grandpa to get the fire extinguisher, but he couldn't find it. My grandma rushed out of the room, while my grandpa went to get a wet cloth but it was too late. The room was an inferno.

I came to visit my grandma a few days later to help clean up. All of her stuff had a light coat of soot, and all of the plastic in the room melted into the form of Picasso sculptures. I looked around the room in awe, it was terrible, I was scared for how much the remodeling of the room would cost, but my grandma just told me insurance would cover everything (I don't think so).

After I helped her clean her stuff, we went back to her suite at the Marriott hotel. This hotel was one of the most well kept hotels I have ever been to.

And out of all of this I earned 7 hours of community service!!!!

Exhausted

By Riittisha

Well, as always, this weekend whizzed by. I.Am.Soooooo.Exhausted. This is like the first time I have had the TIME to post. Like, I've been able to touch the computer a couple of times, but gaah.
I woke up this morning around 11, and only had time for a quick brunch. Then, Angel's Mom picked us up, and a squished, and uncomfortable yet fun ride led us to practice for the dance. It's actually pretty cool. We use chopsticks and all that.
Well. I can't tell you what happened, because I don't even remember. My head is a fuzz, I'm doing my homework, (Hey! This is pretty good for me, because I don't usually do my homework till like, 3 more hours!) while watching episodes of Glee.
Weekend. Weekend. Weekend. I would kill for it to be Friday again. Wait.. what did I do on Friday? I can't remember anything! Ahh!

On the Way

By Tasnim

Tasnim and Riittisha were going together to Claire's birthday party. They left a little late. A bit after one. But that wouldn't have been a problem. Only thing was, they were lost.
Tasnim's dad had NO IDEA where to go. They drove around for an hour. LITERALLY. When where the place really was was like ten minutes from Tasnim's house. They drove and drove and drove. Finally, Tasnim's dad told Tasnim to call Tania and get directions. They did, and they got to the party. Thank God!
As soon as Tasnim's dad pulled up to the house, everyone came out and started yelling. "YOU WERE AN HOUR LATE YOU IDIOT!" Joann yelled. She seemed pretty angry. The good thing was, though that they got there with an hour left at the party Tasnim stayed for like a long while though. YAY

Swinter

By Bridget

Swinter. A combination of summer and winter. A word created by Phineas and Ferb. My new favorite word. Even though it is still spring, it's officially as hot as summer. Today, my cousins finally got sick of it. We made it Swinter. Not exactly, but close. We all went up to the t.vless attic, since it was the coldest floor in the house. Then, we brought up every single plug in fan, spray bottle, hand fans, ad lots more. My dad even helped by digging out the old sno-cone machine and buying some ice. Then, 2 of my cousins carried up all the ice cream and ice pops in the kitchen fridge, and stuffed them into the small fridge in the attic. Now, we just sat there, watching movies on the DVD player. According to my thermometor, the current temperature is 61 degrees F. It is getting cold, and it's awesome to eat as many ice things as we can. If the next 4 months are like this, then this will be the best summer yet.

Please...

By Silvia

"WHAT?"
I never knew that it would go that far.
It was only a cut in the eye, but I never knew that it would go this far.

My dad got the shocking news after school today.
I felt terrified.
I didn't want to lose her.
Not now....
"But...but..."
That's all I could say.
We didn't talk on the ride home.

Imagine almost losing your best friend.
Your companion.
Your amigo since 1st grade.
I never thought about losing her.
Never.....
We even promised since the day I meet her that we won't die until we reach our life's goal.
And she hasn't reached her.

Imagine your companion going to an operation a week from now.
Imagine not seeing your friend for a whole day.
I can't even live without her for an hour.
I don't want my dog to go yet.......
not know........

She got sick at first, and we thought that she would get over.
But it didn't.
In fact, she needs an operation that can chose for her to live or die.
I can't even imagine my buddy in an operation table fighting for her life.
Not now.....

I wish that never happened.
I wish that she gets well quick.
Just don't let my dog.........see the light.

After going home, I just stare at her.
I can't imagine my little dog going to an operating table.
Please let her live...............

Peaches+Ketchup=Throw-up On Tasnim!

By Tasnim

"Jayda! You know that that won't taste good! Don't taste all that food and stop it!" Jayda was mixing ketchup with peaches. On of the Hoffman-Boston Lunch assistances, Ms.T knew that she wouldn't like it, so she told her not to do it. But Jayda refused. She insisted that she does this all the time and likes it. and there she goes, mixing.

No one else cared that she was mixing all her food up. They just watched. this included little first grade Tasnim. In fact, they were all in first grade. No wonder Jayda didn't know any better. Jayda takes her first bite, and Ms.T watches. Everyone else just minded their own business.

Tasnim, who was sitting right across from Jayda, was watching. She thought that Jayda really did like it, and there would be no problem. Tasnim wanted to see Ms.T's reaction when Jayda ate it.

But instead of the food going from Jayda's mouth to Jayda's belly, it went from Jayda's mouth to TASNIM'S face! "pzpspzspzpsz!" Jayda takes her first bite and doesn't like it, so she spits and it lands all over Tasnim. From hair to neck. Tasnim just sits there, not believing what happened. Everyone around her rushes to get napkins and clean her up. OMG! WHAT IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tasnim thinks. Of course Jayda said sorry and helped clean Tasnim up, but that still doesn't help for the fact that she put her used food all over Tasnim. Maybe it would have been easier to deal with if the food hasn't been in someone's mouth, and mixed with saliva.

Life Lesson: When someone says not to mix food up, don't mix food up!!!

(I know this isn't an Alphabiograophy, but there's a life lesson to this, and this will help with other people who want to do crazy things.

3K

By Chris

Today I ran in a 3k in Falls Church. A 3k is 1.86 miles but always feels more like 2 because of the early June heat and all the uphill portions, along with the 800m homestretch. It did increase my endurance, and I ran with my friend, Jamie, who I beat by 2 seconds. We ran a good race overall, sprinting for the finish when Jamie's mom yelled, "Hey Jaime! Your almost there!" At which point Jamie decided that we should run away, as fast as we could. My time was 16:33, which is OK, but not what I expected. Last year, I got a 17, but when I was out on a jog with my friend and his dad, I got just under a 15. Oh, well, I'll do better next year.

Stuffed animals (that I am getting nowhere with)

By Maeve

I am not getting a lot of work done on these stuffed animal things that I am making, and I am supposed to make about 20 of them. Once I finish one, another person just has to come and ask for another one. It seems as though I am getting more people than I am making more things. I have only done a few people so far.

Unicorn
Peacock (almost)
Platypus (almost) (x2)

These are just a few of the things that I have to do.

Bunny
Narwhal
Panda
Pig
Box

And much, much more........

A Lot of Depressing Stuff to Talk About

By Marisa

Yola peepsicles!!!!!! I am currently in the living room of my nana and grandparents' house with, Daphney the 5 year old(cousin), Tiffany the 4 year old(cousin), Peter the 1 year old(cousin), Jack, Sophia, my mom, Uncle Gabe (Peter, Daphney, and Tiffany's dad), Pregnant Aunt Laura (Gabe's wife, and my dad's sister), Gramps(the grandfather;my dad's dad), Nadia, and Nana(my grandmother; dad's mom). Confusing family trees...... We went to (surprisingly) another funeral. Okay, let me try to explain this, my godfather, or my dad's younger brother's wife, Laurie....... Well, Laurie's grandmother's ashes were to be buried witch was like funeral, but smaller. It was sad...... After that, Laurie's parents invited everyone that went to the funeral to this fancy, expensive, Italian restaurant-food on them. Yesterday, at the other funeral, my dad's grandfather, we had about an hour to stay in the funeral home and say our last words to Great grandpa.... (this was on Friday) He had a plush coffin and had make up on that made it look like he didn't loose as much blood as he had lost...... We got to put in notes and pictures in a little cupboard inside the coffin..... Everyone was wearing something along the lines of black. We did a short funeral mass (I'm christian) then, we all drove to the cemetery...... I cried, my mom cried, nana cried, great nana cried.....and, for the first time, I saw..... my dad cry. For him, his grandfather died..... For nana, her dad died..... For great nana, her husband died......Imagine how that feels..... Your dad dying...... Your husband dying...... It's all too sad for my liking..... But, I remember when the priest said, 'He is happier in the after life then he was now; He would be happy if he knew we weren't sad.' And if you think about that, it kinda makes you less sad..... knowing he's happy and stuff...... Well, I'd like to stop talking about this now, so TTFN.....

Pennsylvania Dorm Room

By Jay

Air conditioned and dark, quiet and small, the dorm room that I am staying in is definately a new experience for me.Today I arrived at West Chester University where I am staying for the next couple of days. My dad and I have gotten a dorm room for the weekend so that I can play in a soccer tournament tomorrow.  We have no working lights in the dorm room so it is pretty dark.  We have the bathroom light on to see each others faces. This post is being dictated to my mom over the phone because the internet does not work. It is almost like camping, but maybe tomorrow will be better.

Interviewing, Pumped, & Mystery!!!!

By Riittisha

Can you guess by my title what my first three periods are?

English, Math, Science.

In English, we had to be a interviewer, and a interviewee. But you probably knew that if you're reading this right now. Chris. He was the one who was going to be interviewing me. He's our unicorn, and boy is he funny!! He had me cracking up all through English, but Omar and Nicky who were sitting across from us played a part in my hysterics too. I have to interview Tiana tomorrow. Shep-Dawg always comes up with the most creative and enjoyable assignments...

If you have Mrs. Y for Math, you know that Mrs. Y is.. well, Mrs. Y. As soon as I entered Math, and I had barely sat down when she started grinning really wild, grabbed a bag of Smarties, and started tossin' them around cheerfully, saying, "WE ARE WHAT WE EAT." That was a great start. Everyone knows Mrs. Y is the type of person to pump you up. Then came another surprise. No homework. Mrs. Y is fun, but also strict. So this kind of entered as a shock. Yet, another surprise! Along with the Smarties she gave out Strategy Sheets, saying, "Start as soon as you get them! I'll take the first three people up!" That was a shock too! Mrs. Y likes us all to be settled down, but I didn't have much time to gape... other people were scribbling away, and I wanted to be one of the three. A few minutes later, ... "Mrs. Y, I'm done!!"

"Dang Riittisha!" Lili and Quinn chorused. I was one of the last people to get a strategy sheet, yet I was the second one done, after Silvia, but no fair, she was in the first table to get a sheet! But, I was the last. And I was second. I was awfully proud. One of my goals is to be the first person to stand up. I've accomplished that goals, two or three times. Usually, it's either Joann or me first, only a couple seconds apart, with Silvia right on our tail. I'm proud.

Mystery!! In Science, after out warmup, we watched these two crime clips. Then, we got this map, directions, and had to try to solve the mystery.

"Riittisha.:P"

"Helena. :P"

My partner was Helen. She always calls me Riittisha in this way.. but that's another story.(; It's plenty fun though. For a few minutes, we took in the scene like pro detectives in silence, then started talking. A few minutes later, we were pretty sure we cracked the case. We wrote our theory in the back, and Ms. M promised tomorrow was going to be a exciting day. We'll find out the bumper sticker winners, (I hope I'm one of the Top 5!!!!!!!), and she'll tell us the story. Tomorrow seems promising, but today was plenty fun.

In my opinion, I had a way better day today than yesterday.

Chill Pill

By Silvia

I think I need a chill pill now?
Why?
Well, there is the SOL, and there is the SOL's and there is the SOL's and there is the SOL's -
AND THERE IS THE SOL'S!!!!
I cannot stand staying in a room with a computer in front of me!!! IT STRAINS MY EYES!!!
The worst part s that I NEARLY crashed the computer that had my SOL in.
But luckily no one saw me...
All I know is that a big packet of paper would satisfy me more than my hand falling asleep on the computer mouse.
I think I need a specialized Chill Pill for the SOL's.

So far, I have done the Reading SOL's and I have survived!!
But tomorrow is the MATH SOL's.
And then SOCIAL STUDIES.
And then NO MORE TESTS!!
Wait....
THE END-OF-THE-YEAR-PLACEMENT TEST!!!!!
WHEN WILL THE TESTS END!!!!!

Injured!!!

By Alex

Well you heard it first and here. I'm injured. It's not really serious, but it really affects me. So a few months ago, like some of you (my soccer friends) know, I had a pain in my back for like, 2 weeks. So just yesterday in the game I wanted to play forward, so I was running to the center but then,"Ooww!!" My back started really hurting!! I told Syed that I should be goalie. Then, at one time in the game I decided to jump to the ball, but then after Marvin kicked it I felt even more pain, and it really hurt and I didn't want to play anymore, but I didn't want to be out too. So I stayed.

Then after the game my back really, really hurt, so I checked to see if everything was ok. I felt my left side and I felt a little bump, then I checked my right side, and it felt flat and normal. Then I checked my left side again, and it felt like my back bone was deformed!! So I checked the right side again, and it felt normal. I told my parents and they felt like my bone was deformed too. So this weekend they are taking me to the hospital!!!!

Tree Out the Window

By Tasnim

It sways back and forth, playing follow the leader with the wind. Right to left, Right to left. One side dances, and the other side responds. As if it were communicating. It's drooping. It seems almost, sad.
The flowers are an off white color. It looks like a faded yellow. Green peeks out where ever it can. The whole tree is covered in this pattern. Yellow flowers. Green Leaves. The bugs weave through this pattern. It seems to be looking for a good place to get some pollen.
It's alive. You can almost feel it. All the noiseless excitement going on. Petals drop to the ground, swaying from side to side as if to make a dramatic drop. It was working. It was thinking. Though there was no face, you can tell it was thinking.

This is a tree. This is alive and aware. Definitely thinking.. This is what's outside the window. This is Tasnim's view.

New York

By Bridget

It seems I have just laid down in bed, when my alarm clock rang. I look at it, 5:00 a.m. I groan and walk out of bed, my eyes half closed. I change into my dance team T-shirt, and shorts and put on my sneakers. I manage to go to my parents room, and bang on their door. 5 minutes later, my dad walks out, barely awake and still in his PJs. "I hate doing this every year. I can't wait until you can drive by yourself." is what he says to me. We walk downstairs, and I choke down a banana. I think I fell asleep while doing so. When my dad was done, we walked over to the car. I got in, and checked to make sure my bag was still there. It was. We drove to Lubber Run. I once again fell asleep. When we got there, my dad rudely sprayed my face with water. I got out, and saw 2 charter buses, and about 100 people. I just sign in, grab my bags and blanket, say bye to my dad, and jump in to sleep. You're probably wondering why my dad isn't coming. Well, guess what? I got to go all by myself (Not counting all the other adults/teenagers on the bus)!!!! After about an hour, I was once again rudely woken up. But, I had to go out to get some breakfast. All I got was some soda and a bag of chips for the ride back home. After all the people took about 30 min. to get food, we left once again. This time, I only slept for about 2 hours, then woke-up. For the rest of the long drive, I played on my DS, and watched some of the movie. (Dodgeball.) When we finally got to New York, everyone cheered. The long bus ride was finally over!

I got out to stretch, and soon, all the bags from the storage of the charter bus was taken out. I got my bag, and changed into my dance clothes. Some lady of the group helped me put on the giant hat with feathers. I was one of the first ones completely changed. So I went back into the bus to finish watching the movie. Then the president of the group said "Please, everyone! We have to get to the front of the parade! There has been an emergency change! We are due to dance in 5 minutes!! Well, that was such a god thing to say. EVERYONE not dressed, started rushing around. There weren't a lot of people dressed, but those who were, had to get moving. At the beginning, only 15 people started dancing. Slowly, everyone else got into line. I started out feeling energetic and easy. We all danced for about 3 hours (except for a girl who tripped, and started bleeding) The parade was partly at 5th avenue and a few miles long. At the end, I was starting to get a little tired. Plus, my feet hurt. Near the end, we had 90 seconds to impress the judges. Everyone suddenly acted energetic and strong. Once we completely passed the judges, we got to stop. And guess what was waiting for us at the end? FREE ICE CREAM!!! I ate 5.

The president spoke out once again. "You may all go explore New York, but please, don't go to far, and be back by 4:30 p.m. So, I went off with some other kids my age, and a mom. We all went to this shopping center. I had $40 to get rid of. I bought some books, a few movies and lunch. I still had money left, but I was tired of shopping. When it was 4:15, I decided to meet the group of kids I was with. They all stayed at this clothing store, and we all walked back together. When we got to the bus, we were handed cold soda, and some bread called empanada. I ate it, and went into the bus. I watched the begging of a new movie. It was about 5 minutes into the movie, when I went out-cold. 4 hours later, I was safely in Lubber Run. My dad came to pick me up again, and I napped all over again. This, was an awesome day. If only I hadn't slept through a lot of it.

The End of the World as We Know It?

By Maeve

What a beautiful way to end. It is 75 degrees outside, the sun is out, the birds are singing, and the weatherman actually gave me the Sunday forecast. And yet, the world is still supposed to end.

I myself really don't mind, I actually woke up this morning, I ate my breakfast, I went to the farmers market and Michales, and then helped out at the Lion Park Fair, and nothing has happened yet.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I don't mind.

PE

By Riittisha

P.E. was really fun today. We're doing the basketball right now, and my team, The Chomping Noodles, (name credit goes to me.), consisting of Annabel, Selena, Stefani, Claire and I. Yesterday, we were playing a totally competitive and REALLY aggressive game of B-Ball with the.. Ministix? Consisting Aaron, Evan, Gianni, and Josh. This was our second time playing with them, because on Wednesday, the game was un-finished and they were just about to make a shot. Man, they're competitive!! And they have a lot of teamwork, and skills, I gotta admit that. But we do too, cause they won 1-0! You're probably wondering why losing is good.. it's not great, but we knew they were going to win anyway, but out of like 30 shots they made, half were about bad luck, or bad aim, and the other half, we kept it away from them. So we're a pretty great team.
.
Today, we were playing the KFP's. Kentucky Fried People.. uh.. consisting Leana, Lili, Farshta, Sierra, and Joke. At first, it was a rocky kind of game. But it was fun. We had a ton of teamwork going on, and since Selena wasn't here, the other team kept on having to switch off. Selena is our best shooter, and we had to work harder. We were breathless, but having fun. We passed the balls, made some shots, didn't get disappointed when they didn't make it. In the end, we won, 9-2. They were really good, with a ton of teamwork, but not enough.. some people as soon as they got the ball wanted to shoot, but you needed three passes. By then, one of the ChompingNoodles would've gotten the ball. And as Ms. K. was counting down from 5, Stefani made a fabulous buzzer shot. Way to go!! We were all drenched in sweat, but we were having a blast. Guess that's what part of P.E. is about!!

Challenge 24.

By Riittisha

Challenge 24. The math game, that my TA, THE awesome TA, is going to win against Ms. S's TA!! You hear that Shep-Dawg?! Oh we're gonna win, all right. We got Johanna, we got Maeve, we got Tazzy and Annabel, .. we got ME, ;P
.
We started doing Challenge 24 in TA today, because yesterday Shep-Dawg's TA were doing it and they said they were going to win, and they were getting a lot of practice, so I told Mrs. B we should start doing it. And we did. Well.. the girls. The boys wanted to go outside and they did. -.-
.
Maeve and Johanna wanted to read, (-.-), but they helped occasionally. Annabel, Tasnim and I versed each other, but we spent quite some time mulling over a card... a card that was supposed to be EASY! Well. It certainly wasn't. And just as I finally thought I got it, the bell rang. -.-
.
One reason we couldn't get it is because of the balls. They were kind of distracting, but it was worth it. And boy, Shep-Dawg's TA is LOUD! We could hear them so clearly, like they were screaming in our ears!! Woah. We're still going to win.
.
After homework club, Pamela had a pile of cards, and we did it. Tasnim, Pamela, me, Joann and Lupita. Joann, Lupita and I kept on using our calculators, and that got Tasnim and Pamela steamed. So we put them away. Joann had to leave soon, but our competition still went on. There were many distractions, but in the end, Tasnim won, with about 8 cards.
.
We're gonna cream you Shep-Dawg!! <3 But.. break a leg!!
P.s. When is the competition?

SOLs

By Joann

All you take is a test. One BIG test. That you have to prepare for. And you've been preparing the whole school year technically. They're the..... SOLS.

Every year, I'm always dreading them, and the teachers are always taking it easy on us after they finish and they let us take a week off and just go outside, eat popsicles, and play. On the playground. I have a feeling that that's not going to happen here. We have 1 week and 1 day (8 days) and exactly 1 week before the SOLS begin for us. And why does the math SOL have to be on the 26th? What's wrong with that number, is it cursed or something? I mean, at least it isn't my birthday, just the day that I was born on but still. I've never had the SOL on that day! What's wrong with it now? Nothing. It's fine. But no, it's not because I have to take the math SOL on that day. And is it a coincidence that math is my favorite subject and I have to take it on the day that I was born? NO. But I hope I get good luck, since it is kind of my lucky day. Oh well. I HOPE TO PICK A FIGHT WITH YOU LATER SOL.

I'm not feeling any kind of luck anymore.

Victory

By Kelwyn

Well today was my team playing against Fransisco's team in the tournament. I was pretty scared about the game. It started and Josh and I had to sit out first. We had been watching for about 12 minutes and we already had 2 goals. Then I finally came in! Then the game started, Byran had the ball, I took it from him and passed it to Josh then he made the shot and.....GOAL!!!!!!! We had to start back on the middle of the field and it was Fran's ball. He passed it to Jason then Quinn-- Omar took it, passed it to Leana who was close to the goal. She had the pass and Fran was right behind her so she shot and another goal. 4 to 0. Me and Josh sat out again, then Yoyada and Omar made a goal, and then it was 6 to 0. Me and Josh came back in, and I had the ball passed it to Leana and she made another goal. Then the last goal was by Yoyada. I didn't make a goal because I was mostly midfield. Then the game ended.

Blog

By Chris

Today, I hope to revolutionize the world of WHWN. I am proposing that we choose who makes it on the Slice o' Life and/or Alphabiography blog.  We would do  this by replying to posts that we liked and at the end of the reply, saying 'I vote for this post for the blog', or, 'Vote 1, vote 2...' yada yada yada. If it's ok with Ms. S we could launch this as soon as today or tommorow! If you like this idea, please reply!

NEWS FLASH: FRIDAY THE 13 DOESN'T MEAN UNLUCKY!

We got lucky. I know that it was Saturday the 14, but we started camping on the 13, and we got lucky.

It was supposed to rain all of Saturday. It was supposed to rain all day, and then stop at night. But it didn't. Miraculously there was no rain until the night. That meant that we got to do all of the activities that we were scheduled to do during the day, but we had to do the campfire inside at night.

When we got to the campfire there were already people there, and we started doing stuff right away. There was this one skit that I can remember very clearly. There were five girls lined up on a bench, right leg crossed over left, right elbow on knee, and right hand supporting the head. The first one would go, "Is it time yet?", and then the others would pass it down to the last person, who would look at an imaginary watch, and answer, "No." The message would then be passed down the line to the last person. They did this about five times, and then, when the watch person said, "Yes!", they switched left leg, left elbow, left hand, face. It was hilarious!

Then the real fun came, well, it was more sad then fun, but, still.

They had an old American Flag there that needed to be retired. One representative from each troop would come up and cut off one of the stripes, if they were born in one of the 13 colonies, they would usually cut off the stripe of their colony. They would then fold the stripe in half, and put it in the fire. It would take a few seconds, but then the fire would burn so much brighter. I thought that I could see the color of the stripe in the flames. It was so sad! It felt as though the very life was burning out of each and every stripe!

Walk for the Animals in the Shelter!!!

By Silvia

Today I went to a walk-for-a-certain-charity with my sister. In order to participate, you'll need a dog.
We took our pure-breed beagle with us, and on the car ride there she kept chattering.
Then we finally went to Bluemount Park. Once we put our raincoats on,(Yes, even our dog had a rain coat.) we didn't know where the charity would take place.
So we walked for a mile, and we finally found it. It was taking place in Curtus Trail(In Arlington, Va), and we were to start a a baseball field.
We signed up, and apparently our dog's friend, a half-Labrador and half-poodle mix named Hazel, had also joined to help with the charity. Her two owners then signed up, and one of the owners had brought her cousins, and they had a dog too.
So before we were to walk, we ventured out to the tents sponsoring stuff for dogs. (Dog treats, pet surgery, dog training, etc.)
But when we were inside one of the tents, it started to rain really hard.
So we were rained in for 20 minutes.
Then once we had to walk, the rain literately rained the parade.
But luckily we had our raincoats, so it was no bother to us.

See, this charity is to help animals that are living in shelters and try to make them have an increased chance of getting adopted by donating money, and then take a walk on a 3-mile trail.
A 3-mile walk.
But I really don't like walking more than 2 miles. (I hate the outdoors.)
But then my sister kept saying,"It's for the poor animals."
So then I felt guilty.
So I decided to walk the 3 mile trail.

I almost passed out on the 3rd mile.
But luckily my sister parked her car at the end of the trail.
So we were saved from passing out.
Then we went home and we had to take our dog a bath, since the mud had apparently gotten to her feet.
Then we had to take a shower because we have gotten dirty from taking her a bath.
The whole walk was pretty fun, but the both of us complaining that the trail will never end was not.

Camp

By Bridget

"Dad!!! PLEASE! Don't leave me here! I can go with you! I'll be good on the plane! The other kids will pick on me!!!! Mom! NO!"

The first time I ever went to a sleep away camp, was when I was about 7. It was not pretty. The camp was just a simple, craft, sports, games, swimming type of camp. I was supposed to stay a week, and my aunt would pick me up. While I was supposed to be there, my parents decided to take a "vacation" from us. Us meaning my brother, I think. Anyway, my mom and dad left me stranded at the camp entrance. I refused to go in. I thought about hitchiking. Just then a jeep came in. I ran into the camp, afraid it would runover me. There was a camp counsler. She told me to get in, and she would drive me to camp. Camp ended up being 2 miles into the woods. But it was so cool!!! There was this cool artificial lake, a big field for sports, canoes, decent cabins, electricity, and bathrooms! Actual bathrooms! Not poter potties! It was unbeilievable! I might actually like it here. I had nothing against nature, or the great outdoors. But, at the time, I was REALLY shy. (That is obviously not true right now) I was an average kid. I hadn't gotten glasses yet, and my hair was a median length ponytail. But I was still SUPER shy. Especially with people I never met before. My parents said camp would "help me to not be shy anymore," but I thought, No, you guys want me to have the worst summer of my life. I was in a bunk room with 3 other girls. I only remember 2, Maria and Lucille. The other one had to go back home because she got a fever 5 minutes into camp.

I have to tell you the truth. It was EPIC!!!! I made a lot of friends, and learned how to not burn marshmellows. I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow, and then how to use that skill to go fishing. I also learned a lot of smores are not good for you right before bedtime. Before I knew it, it was time to go. I was really sad. But I realized I wasn't shy anymore, so that was really awesome. When my aunt took me home, I immediatly feel asleep. (I admit it, everyone in my cabin would stay up until 2 or 3 a.m looking at stars, then wake up at 8:30 a.m.) I was behind on sleep, so before I knew it, I was back home 3 hours away.

GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Chris

Today in P.E., we were facing Anu-ujin's team for the second day in a row. There was about a minute left, and we scored the tying goal. Here's how it went down. We had an out-of-bounds play. Jackson was right in front of the goal, and Jared was back in Stock and Block position. Brooke was playing goalie (her finger hurt) and I was in bounding the ball (we play with fuzzy balls). I tried to pass across the court to Jackson, but the ball didn't go where I wanted it to. Instead, it hit off of Anna's leg, and guess what? It went into the back of the net! We ended up in a tie, but that's better than nothing.

Also today, we had a scale test in band, and I did great, I got a 100%, today was a lucky day, almost as lucky as Friday the 13th. Good thing I'm Irish! (Not really).

Staring Into Space

By Riittisha

Staring into Space. Something I do all the time!! Even this morning.
*Dad knocks on door.*
"Why are you taking so long to get dressed?"
"Sorry Dad, I was staring out my window."
5 minutes later.
"Will you please start eating your breakfast?"
"I like to stare out the window."
10 minutes later.
"What have you been doing the last ten minutes?!"
"Uhm.. staring out the window." I say sheepishly.
Staring into space is great. You can let all your thoughts collect.. or just let your mind go blank. Someday, I actually want to stare into space.. I WANNA BE A ASTRONAUT!!
.
Staring into Space is great.. try it sometime.

Gone Forever

By Bridget

Our family has recently lost one of it's most valuble members ever. He has served us all great, and was special. Yesterday, he was stolen. Or really taken away. We were having a BBQ, when the men in blue uniforms came in that big ugly truck. They marched into the house, up into the attic, and took away the playroom 72" flat screen T.V!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! This is the worst news ever. We got that T.V a while back, and, for some time, it was taller then I was. But the point is, in a way, I own that T.V. When I was younger, our last one was completly messed up. So we went on a hunt for a bigger one. We found the perfect one. And it was the right price. But the store was fresh out. We checked in other counties around here, but they were all out. So, I randomly typed an unknown zip code to see if there were any in that store. And there was! Sure, the store was an hour away. But it was really close to my soccer teams usual game field. So, we went after the game the next day. We got to buy the very last one. That T.V didn't fit above the chimney, where my mom wanted it, so it was donated to the playroom. For 5 years, we have used it to play Wii, other video games, movies, and shows. But now it's gone. Forever. I don't know why exactly, but the people from Sears came, and spent an hour getting it out the window. (It didn't fit through the whole for the ladder.) It was hard to see the best member of the family being taken away. And it was even worse to do it in front of the many children who worshipped it. I'm telling you, without Timmy (Yes, I named him) I might not make it.

Red Mango!!

By Brooke

Today we went to Red Mango because for my Mothers Day because my mom got a gift card there. It was SO good. I had been there before but this time I got a frozen yogurt in a size large cup.

I say that because it was huge and I consumed the whole thing. I got this Madagascar Vanilla flavor and a lot of fresh fruit. I also got the weirdest fruit/food I'd ever seen on it. I could tell it was a fruit but because of the lady's thick accent I couldn't understand what she called it. It was clear, shaped in a ball about the size of a small blueberry, and it tasted as my sister said,"LIKE SOAP!"

Tea, the Rhyme

By Chris

Today we are going to tea. Yes sir I will go with glee! To celebrate Mother's day we will go. I hope to say, "Jolly good Show!" I hope they don't charge a fee, if I trip, and spill my tea. If you need, I will repeat it, me. We have a reservation for tea. I have to be sort of fancy. I hope they have cheese because it is so Tasty and tastes better than a stale old cookie. Oh lord please help me not spill my tea, or else they may charge a fee for the clean. If I spill my tea, I will cry and I will weep, for tea is a gentleman's coffee.

By Joann

I really want to write about my camping trip with the Girl Scouts to Maryland and we're staying for two nights and we're going to LIVE in a cabin. Well, not live but camp for two days. I've been in a glen shelter before for like 5 days and let me tell you, it was so stupid. Cabins have better beds, shelter, walls, floors and just in general, everything.

I can't wait until Memorial Day Weekend because that's when we're going! All that I need is work gloves which I think I have although they're hidden somewhere in my garden and rope. We have rope too but it's also hidden somewhere in my garden. My mom likes to hide stuff that deals with gardening in our garden. Very obvious isn't it? And my mom loves to hide stuff from me. When it was Easter, she hid all the eggs and I couldn't find them until I thought of the flowers. Her hiding space is in the garden. ALWAYS in the garden. And so then, I found all the eggs. They were hidden in one obvious spot. Deep beneath the tulips. (Those are her favorite flowers!)

I know what I'm going to get her for Mother's Day. A pillow I made in Home Ec Act II, and some tulips picked from our garden with a little bow tied around them and maybe some chocolates. She doesn't really eat chocolate though so I'm still thinking about another present to add to the bundle that could replace the chocolate.

A Quinceneira Surprise

By Tasnim

The Alam's sat at the dinner table, eating, and discussing their day.
"Oh! I have something to ask you guys!"Tasnim announces. she didn't want to forget yet again forget to ask her parents.
"We have something to tell you to." Her dad emphasizes when he says you. What can this possibly be about? A quick thought came to Tasnim. Did I do something wrong?
  "Me?!" Tasnim asked surprised.
"Yes, you. But you go first, then we'll tell you what we have to say." So, Tasnim asks what she needs to, so she can get to the other mystery announcement that her parents had in store.
"Can I go to my friend's birthday party? It's on June 2nd."
"Which friend?" Tasnim's mother asks. Of course Tasnim wanted to know if she was going, but she also, really really really wanted to know what the other topic was.
"The one that stayed over. I can show you the invite later. It's upstairs."
"Okay, we'll talk about it some more later." Now on to the good stuff. Tasnim was just about to explode! What in the world can this be?!?!?!?!?!
"Okay..." Tasnim's mother says, rather slowly. "MY old co-worker called me today. Her daughter is having a Quinceneira, and she invited you."
"Really? Me! I'm sooo honored!" Tasnim couldn't believe that she was invited to a Quince.
"Yeah. I didn't really get the details. I can get those tomorrow. But, I first need to know if you're interested. All rides will be provided." Her mom lays out all the information.
"I think it would be great."
"You know. It's going to be A LOT of work. you'll have to go to all the practices. And if you even miss one, the girl's quince will be ruined. Are you sure?" Tasnim's most likely jealous sister proclaims after a while. She tried to persuade Tasnim not to do such a thing. "I mean I guess it'll be fun, but are you sure?"
Tasnim told her mother to find out the details, and she'll decide from there. Most likely, the answer will be a yes.

Writing

By Tasnim

You know what I have realized? Most people write on Slice of Life:
In first person
With a lot of voice (writing as if you're talking)
With many verbs
In a way so we all understand
Slice of Life has helped me to learn how to do these things as well. But there are some things that I want to  become better at when it comes to writing. I think that Slice of Life can help me achieve my goals:
Writing in third person
Using a lot of descriptive writing
Creating a story that is able to fit all details
Creating a mind-image
etc.
My goal, for the rest of May, will be to write my stories in third person, using a lot of descriptive writing, fitting all the details, creating a mind-image, etc.
This is my own personal challenge so that I can become a better writer. Maybe this will help me. I'll start tomorrow and end on the 31st. I think my prize will be.....well, actually I don't think I'll have a prize. Wish me luck! I hope that I can achieve my goal.
.
.
Pre-Warning: there might be some days that I can't stay on for long, so I can't spend my time thinking about what, and how to write. Those days, I might be typing short stories and fulfilling my challenge the next day. everyday that I do this, my challenge will be carried on to June...hopefully not to past the school year.

The Whole World in Colors....

By Silvia

I just finished this book I was reading called "A mango shaped space." and I noticed that almost every person I saw had that book. It's all like we all love Wendy Mass or something.
Anyways, it about a girl who has Synesthesia.

syn·es·the·sia

[sin-uh s-thee-zhuh, -zhee-uh, -zee-uh]
–noun
a sensation produced in one modality when a stimulus is applied to another modality, as when the hearing of a certain sound induces the visualization of a certain color.
In similar words, you can see things (Letters, numbers.) in color. And other odd things too, like the numbers in your head has personalities and you can see shapes under certain conditions.
Example:
For pe
ople with  synesthesia, these words are in color, like right now.(This sentience is in  color, but it is not always in these colors with those who have synesthesia.)

But people without synesthesia would only see them in black.(This sentience is in Black.)
S I wonder what it would be like for people with synesthesia.....like all these sentences in color naturally. (highlight these words if you cannot see them properly.)

A is for "Are We There Yet?"

By Helen

This car ride wasn't much different then the other ones, "Are we there yet?" choruses thoroughout the car from my brother and I. We we're driving to our relatives house in Michigan and my brother and I had enough of this six hour ride.
   "Almost," answers my dad wearily.
My mom wakes up and asks "where are we?"
     "Close," my dad repleys.
"Why aren't we on I57?" my mom questions.
Yes we were lost, and that proves that my dad is not a good navigator. While my mom and dad tried to get back on I57. My brother and I spotted an overlook.
"Can we just stop at that overlook to stretch are legs and to get back on track?" I pleaded.
We pulled over and parked at the overlook. My brother and I went right to the edge. We looked out and it was amazing: with a rushing river and a Heron on a tree really close. It made your eyes strain to see it all at once. We got back in the car really glad we saw it!
Life lesson: Your destination isn't always the place you want to be.

April

By Joann

It's April 30th, the last day of April. I've actually been waiting for this day to come and it seems like it never would but now, here it is! FINALLY!

I can't wait to start my Alphabiography!!! But I definetly won't stay up until midnight to post. That would just be weird for me.... VERY WEIRD. And don't you think I'm already crazy enough because I talk about squirrels, murder, cows, and ditches and unicorns and other crazy stuff that you probably wouldn't want to hear about.

Last days of the months are always weird for me because in my head I know it's the last day of the month, and if it's on a Saturday, sometimes, I think that it's really Sunday and then that I'm going to go to school the nxt day. I don't know why but I'm probably thinking that since it's the end of the month, and the new month is starting, that because it ended I have to go back to school or maybe it's just always a coincidence that I mix up the days every end of the month. I THINK NOT!

Happy 87 or 88 birthday!!!

By Andriana

Today is my grandpa's birthday and I am so excited. He is really old. I think that he is either 87 or 88 years old. But he is really old. I am going to go to his house and we are going to have a small quiet party for him. My grandma is going to make cheesecake.....by the way I love cheese cake. Then we are going to go to a jazz blues concert, which I really do not want to do but I have to go because he wants too. So that is it....he has a pretty boring birthday but he is old and still alive and that is what amkes him so cool.

The Fence!!!

By Hunter

Today during PE we have to play tennis. When we got out side it was not wet even if it was rain all day. We got there then Ms. H. told us to get a partner. I looked right at Malcom then he shakes his head in a yes. When we were passing the ball I hit it right over the fence. Malcom goes and runs to get the ball. While he was doing that I went to go be with Jack and Will. But before I did that I went to go tell Ms. H. where Malcom was. I saw that they were trying to get down a tennis ball off of a wall. I looked and saw a fence right next to it. Then I told Ms. H. I can go get the ball. I went all spider man on that fence. I was on the top of the wall in no time. There the ball was in like two feet away. I get the ball and throw it back I felt so happy for myself. Then I see another tennis ball fly over the fence. I yelled let me get it. I jump to the other side of the fence. I fell to a little bar to hold me so I can find a way down. I think I can jump into the tree, maybe I could slide down that pole. I thought I should take the smater way. I slide down the pole and throw the ball back over the fence. I run over to go find Malcom. I ran as fast as I could then I froze in my tracks. I hand started to burn in pain. I looked at my hand to see a cut about one to one-half of an inch. I told Ms. H. that I had to go to the nurse, she told me go right ahead. I ran and went right to the nurse. The nurse gave me a little band-aid. I went back outside to find that we had to go back in.

Life Lesson: Next time I should take the long way, so I don't get hurt.

Meanie Dentist Lady

By Tasnim

So, on Monday, after after school, or in simpler terms at 4:00, I got picked up to go to the dentist. I do't mind going to the dentist. I know some people are scared of it, or just don't like going, but it's nothing to me. I barely think about it. there are some things that I hate about going to the dentist though. like:
  • Not being able to get my homework done early.
  • The smell of the gloves that linger over my face as I'm getting my teeth cleaned/checked.
  • The after-feeling of wanting a GOOD mouthwash.
  • Gloves being all jammed up in your face.
Of course, these are minor things to me. Nothing to make me hate a place. But, I'm not very fond of this one dentist lady that seriously has some issues, as Joann would out it. Or would she more say "I should roast that lady like a squirrel on a stick in a ditch!"? Yeah. That's more like her. Okay, back to the story.
there are a series of things that this lady did to make me not like her. And it's not only me, my whole family despises her, and I'm sure others do too. Unless they like:
  • People who make a comment , and not a very nice one, just because you get 2, only 2 texts before she starts cleaning your teeth. Yeah. That wasn't very nice of her, and makes you realize that she isn't very patient either.
  • Giving you some weird channel to watch while she's cleaning your teeth. I mean, I don't watch that much TV, but it's nice to be distracted while someone's jabbing cleaning tools inside your mouth. Instead, I was forced to watch the nasty little needle thingy filled with my teeth stuff.
  • Not watching where she's putting the tools, or how she's picking it up. I had a lot of drool around my face.
  • One of the worst of all, she hurt me, hard. I can still feel it. Okay, so you that sucking water thingy? well she was using that along my teeth, all smooth rolling along, and then, on the left side, she pushes it with all her might on my gum. that thing hurt. She hurt my gums, and my tongue. I think it has a scab on it, or something. Ugh! that wasn't my favorite part. I nearly broke my phone from squeezing it so hard.
  • When she pulled the sucking thingy out, my drool went flying everywhere. And all she did was say sorry in a slightly annoyed way. well EX-CA-U-OOZ me! but I think I'm the one that should be annoyed right now.
  • And then, when we pick up my mom, right after the dentist, I tell her about it, and she automatically assumes it's the same lady that I'm talking about. Obviously, there are some problems. she said that my family has to come every 4 months because our teeth were too dirty, when the real doctor  that checked on it said our teeth are beautifully clean. I think we need to check this degree or her's.
Now is it okay for me to dislike her? Well, I hope so, because I do NOT want her as my dentist cleaner lady ever again! Craziness!!!!

DRP Test

By Delgermaa

The test was making sleepy, I mean seriously. I literally slept for like 5 minutes until I finally woke myself up. That explains why I was like the last person to finished... I'm glad nobody noticed that I was sleeping. Ha-ha, I'm thankful that I do not snore! I really don't like tests that you have to read boring paragraphs about how insects lay their eggs. Well, that was pretty interesting, but yeah. I hope I didn't do bad...

Spring Break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

By Annabel

Before we left our house I had just learned that for spring break my family and I were going to Niagara Falls!!! I couldn't believe it. As my mom announced this over the phone my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe, Niagara Falls! I told my brothers and all they did was scream for the next ten minutes. At first I had no fear of Niagara Falls, but then my dad told me a story. The story, a true one, said that once while my dad's friend from work was there a little boy, about five, fell in and went over the falls and died. I couldn't believe it, that was in the back of my mind the whole vacation.

When we crossed the border over to Canada no one moved a muscle, everyone was silent. The guard asked my dad to open my door, so he could see all of the people. "O my gosh!" I thought to myself. "Don't do anything stupid!!!" I whispered back to my brother's. We made it across safely, and were off to our hotel. Our hotel is the tallest hotel in Canada and is right on the falls! When we arrived our room was on the 44th floor with a great falls view. The rooms each had a flat screen, but my room had a Jacuzzi.

We did so many great things at Niagara, such as: Journey Behind the Falls, where you could get drenched with the 38 million gallons of water pouring down Niagara every minute. We saw two IMAX movies about the falls, one of them being a 4D movie. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing Niagara Falls is or was, incredible is one of those words.

The ride home was sad. But I got to try new foods, and see the American Falls. Which were very cool, but my favorite were the Canadian falls!

Late Night

By Riittisha

Last night I was up till 1.. singing. Actually, I was up till 2, because I read for an hour. Anyways, why didn't I post at midnight yesterday?! I don't know, I answer myself. I was singing. I took breaks and went to WHWN and other places on the computer when I exhausted myself. I was singing for the talent show, and I said I wanted to do a song I had done before, but my Mom said lots of people had heard me sing that song, so I should do another one. I protested, because I really liked that song, and all the other songs she had chose were either too - boring, slow, long or hard words. So I really wanted to do my song... even if I did it before... it was a slightly slow... slightly, but it had a great beat and the song was so sweet. But I realized after I sang it, my voice wasn't sweet for that song anymore. Then my Mom found another song, and I gave in eagerly, because it was sweet, great rhythm, and short. 3 minutes, 1:30 of that was probably music. Now if I still remembered how to play guitar, my Mom would have made me, but since I forgot (Thankfully because the music had a ton of different notes), someone else would do it. Oh!! This is for the talent show... I'm singing the Nepali Anthem too with my friend Ayusha, my sister, Ayusha's cousin Angelle; my sister's friend and Nista, my sister's friend. They're all 6- so mostly Ayusha and I will be singing it, but they'll help in places. And the competition!! It's next weekend. Oh!! The dance passed already. That's all! I woke up at 8 surprisingly... considering I was up till 2.

I'm in New York!!!!!!!

By Marisa

Yola peepsicles!!!! I'm in New York right now on my grandparents (grandparents on mother's side) computer...... They have this huge house that's custamized for them. And since my grampa is crazy about the Adirondak mountains and hunting and guns and stuff, EVERY peice of furniture looks like it was fresh out of the woods. I mean, where ever you look, there's a picture of a deer or a gnome...... He also loves history. Like right now, he insists on going to a military museum that, we went to last time we came..... He also has a huge safe of guns....... Almost everyone of my relatives here have, like an addiction to the woods....... They can be really nice too. Although the houses are all woodsy and stuff, they're really homey and stuff you know? Like, they give you this warm feeling inside (I know that may sound cheesey and stuff, but it's true!). There has been a lot of bad luck in my family lately...... like, my Aunt Theo has cancer, my other Grandpa (grandpa on my dad's side)has cancer and my grandma has a really bad knee (grandma on my mother's side) It's sorta sad...... Well! Anyway, I've gotta go to that museum (ugh). So, bu-bye!!!!
P.S. I'm sorry I haven't been posting lately.....

Where do I start? annoying sister or guy stuck in elevator?

By Prashanth

Today I realized how annnoying having a sister's friend over for a sleepover is. I was trying to watch a brand new Victorious and Big Time Rush but I couldnt, all they did was keep talking and talking and talking louder and louder. I'm going to move on to the real topic now. Has anyone ever been stuck in an elevator? I had a sword fighting class end at 9:00 today and my friend Dan took the elevator. It broke down and wouldnt open at the 2nd floor. He yelled and banged, everyone heard him. By the time I checked there was Dan's dad and the sword master wondering how to get the door open. The sword master shoved his sword into the elevator door and tried to break it open but he couldnt. After a few tries he then called the fire department. In about 5 minutes they were here. 7 people came and started breaking the elevator door.

" You know Dan, when you get out of there we are going to make fun of you for riding that elevator" said the swordmaster. 1 minute passed and the elevator was open. The swordmaster took out his iphone and started taking pics of Dan, the elevator and some firemen. Soon we all left and went home. All of us learned a lesson. Whenever you can, take the stairs instead of the elevator.

And You Said the Gulf Had No Waves!

By Helen

Today was a laid back day on the beach, well kinda because the waves in the water were huge (just how I like it). You see my brother and me are used to big waves like on Bethany, Virginia, Cape May etc. We've been to the Gulf a bunch of times yet still we are bummed that theres not any waves. But today that totally was proved wrong like there were pretty big waves like as big as low tide on most east coast beaches. We even body surfed a lot of them! It was an awesome day in the Gulf!

Tucson Day 3

By Connor

Today, My family decided to go to the "Desert Museum" which is on a steep mountain. The place was filled with snakes, coyotes and piggish creatures. Even better was that I could see Mexican soil from everywhere that didn't have a cactus in front of it. Turns out that the museum was only like 5 miles from the Us-Mexican border. The hike was only 1/2 a mile so I wasn't that tired. So I went to the hotel pool and swam. I also brought my soccer ball to play, but there is not a lot of room to play. I AM BORED! goodbye earthlings
